If you’re a new nursing student graduate, you may be overwhelmed with the process of searching for nursing jobs and choosing the right job for you. Although you may be somewhat confused as to how to start with respect to the process of finding nursing jobs and opportunities, one thing that you’ve got going for you is that nursing jobs are high in demand. So the issue is not whether you’ll find a nursing job, but which one you’ll choose among the many different types of nursing jobs available.

First of all, think about what kind of nursing job you would like, what type of nursing career path you’d like to take, and where you would like to work. If you’re single, flexible, and would like to travel, a travel nursing job abroad somewhere might be perfect. If you’d like to stay put in the U.K. but still enjoy some flexibility, consider per diem positions. Permanent, full-time positions are also available within hospitals, clinics, and private practices.

You’ll also need to determine your area of specialization, or in which department you’d like to work. Some examples include geriatrics, paediatrics, maternity, emergency, cardiology, or radiology, among many other diverse departments and fields, or you could work as a community health or home-care nurse. If you’re not sure where you’d like to work (in terms of both geographical location and type of nursing environment), consider consulting a career guidance counsellor.

Once you know what you want, you can register with a few U.K.-based or general nursing agencies, both locally and online, that connect employers with nurses and nurses with nursing jobs. The Internet will probably become your most useful resource as there are a myriad of online nursing agencies, nursing career staffing companies, and other websites that advertise nursing jobs in the U.K. and the world. Some will require registration; some allow you to post your resume in addition to searching for nursing jobs.

Although there are plenty of nursing jobs available because this important sector is in demand all over the world, keep in mind that you may not find your “ideal” job right away. Continue to actively seek out local, out-of-city, and overseas nursing jobs, and choose the best one for your situation. Your perfect, “ideal” job will come when the time is right for you.
