Engineering Jobs
Do you fancy building a bridge one day? Or maybe put a plane together with its tens of thousands of components? Maybe you like tall buildings and your dream is to erect a skyscraper one day…or you like roads and streets and maps, and everything relating to transportation.
Whether you’re going to be a civil, structural, aeronautical or transportation engineer – one thing is sure: our country needs more people like you.
Some people have apprehensions about embarking on an engineering career because they think that 95% of the work involves difficult mathematics and calculus. Part of that is true, you have to be at ease with numbers and equations to perform your engineering tasks well. But a lot of engineering is plain common sense and good spatial ability. You call your logical reasoning and problem-solving skills to task.
Engineering Jobs: Areas of Specialisation
In the UK and other countries, you have the option to specialise in a specific branch of engineering. You can choose from any of the following:
- Aeronautical engineering – electrical power engineering, polymer-clay nanocomposites, laser space antennas and their link to gravitational studies and many more;
- Chemical engineering – molecular simulation, roller compaction of pharmaceutical excipients, water treatment, renewable energy and many more;
- Biotechnological engineering – tissue-engineered products, molecular simulation, plant biotechnology and others;
- Electrical engineering – human/computer interactions, micromechanical structures, microsystems engineering;
- Civil engineering – construction, offshore engineering, environmental engineering
This list is by no means exhaustive. Engineering has spread out its wings and the more industrial a society becomes, the more specialised its requirements are going to be so engineers will have a lot on their hands. The wonderful thing is, engineers can fit in anywhere – government, the private sector, medium-sized businesses, work sites. They can also set up their own engineering business and serve as consultant to industry and government.
Because engineers are always in demand, most recruiting specialists have made it easier for engineers to tap into online job databases and to file their applications online. The process is fairly straightforward, and databases are organised according to specialty.
If you like to be challenged and want to harness your problem-solving and mathematical skills, consider any of the engineering jobs that are available.
